About FLIR IR Windows
FLIR Infrared (IR) Windows are specialised optical devices that facilitate safe and efficient thermal inspections of energised electrical equipment. They serve as a protective barrier, allowing thermal cameras to capture infrared images without the need to open electrical panels, thereby reducing the risk of arc flash accidents.
How They Work
The IR window is installed on the door or wall of an electrical enclosure. When you point a thermal camera at the window, it lets infrared radiation (heat) pass through, allowing you to capture thermal images of the equipment inside without opening the panel.
FLIR's proprietary PIRma-Lock™ system ensures a secure and reliable installation. This locknut mechanism holds the window firmly in place without the need for additional screws, simplifying the installation process and enhancing durability.
Product Variations
FLIR offers IR windows in various sizes and materials to suit different applications:
- Sizes: Available in 50.8 mm (2-inch), 76.2 mm (3-inch), and 101.6 mm (4-inch) diameters to accommodate diverse inspection needs.
- Materials: Frames are constructed from anodised aluminium for standard applications or stainless steel to prevent galvanic corrosion when installed on stainless steel enclosures.
Applications
- Electrical Inspections: By installing IR windows on electrical enclosures, technicians can perform routine thermal inspections to detect issues such as overheating connections, imbalanced loads, or deteriorating components without exposing themselves to live electrical parts.
- Predictive Maintenance: Incorporating IR windows into maintenance programs allows for regular monitoring of equipment health, facilitating early detection of potential failures and reducing unplanned downtime.
- Safety Compliance: Utilising IR windows helps organisations adhere to safety standards, such as NFPA 70E, by minimising the need to open energised equipment, thereby reducing the risk of arc flash incidents.
By integrating FLIR IR Windows into electrical systems, organisations can enhance safety, improve inspection efficiency, and maintain compliance with industry standards.
