About FLIR Borescopes & Endoscopes

FLIR borescopes and endoscopes are advanced inspection tools designed to visually examine areas that are difficult to access. They are equipped with flexible or semi-rigid probes featuring cameras at the tip, allowing users to capture images and videos of internal components without disassembly.

How They Work

  1. Insertion Probe: This is the long, slender, and often flexible part of the instrument that is inserted into the area to be inspected. Probes vary in diameter, length, flexibility and tip Articulation.
  2. Optical System: This system transmits the image from the distal tip of the probe back to the user's eyepiece or display.
  3. Integrated Display: FLIR borescopes and endoscopes typically have a built-in colour LCD screen to display the live video feed from the probe camera. The VS80 offers an excellent example of a screen-only model, providing high-quality visuals in an easy-to-use format.
  4. Image/Video Capture Controls: Buttons or touchscreen controls allow users to capture still images and record videos of the inspection.
  5. Articulation Controls (if applicable): For articulating models, controls (often joystick or buttons) allow the user to steer the probe tip.

Applications

  • Industrial Inspection: Ideal for non-destructive testing and visual inspections in various industries, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
  • Automotive Maintenance: Used to inspect engine components, transmission systems, and other hard-to-reach areas in vehicles.
  • Building Inspections: Assist in examining wall cavities for moisture and insect infestations or locating electrical wiring and water pipes.
  • Aviation: Employed to inspect aircraft engines and other critical components without disassembly.

They are essential for preventative maintenance, quality assurance, and rapid diagnostics in countless applications, improving efficiency and safety.
