The UE Systems Ultraprobe® 401 Digital Grease Caddy Pro can be used to monitor the lubrication of bearings and thereby prevent problems caused by over- or under-lubrication.
This instrument converts ultrasonic waves into an audible range, allowing the user to hear bearing noises through the heavy-duty headphones. Ultrasonic amplitude is also displayed in decibels on the UE Systems Ultraprobe® 401 Digital Grease Caddy Pro’s digital display panels; the UE Systems Ultraprobe® 401 Digital Grease Caddy Pro is equipped with two display panels, one of which indicates both the decibel value and an intensity bar graph.
When the lubrication around bearings begins to decrease, localised and directional ultrasonic frequencies are emitted. These ultrasonic waves are converted into audible sounds which can be heard through the supplied heavy-duty headphones; if bearings produce a consistent sound quality but a volume increases in excess of 8dB is detected (indicated via the display), the bearing is in need of lubrication.
Using the UE Systems Ultraprobe® 401 Digital Grease Caddy Pro, the operator can apply grease to bearings without over-lubricating as he/she can hear when the grease reaches the bearing. As the bearing's baseline data is uploaded to the UE Systems Ultraprobe® 401 Digital Grease Caddy Pro, the user is also able to detect when the grease has reached the bearing by observing when the decibel levels drop to the baseline level. It is possible to save this lubrication data and add it to the bearing’s history file.
Data saved to the UE Systems Ultraprobe® 401 Digital Grease Caddy Pro can download into the UE Systems Ultratrend Data Management System Software, allowing the user to retain records for various bearings. It also enables the user to identify trends in lubrication data, thereby providing insights into the reasons for bearing failure. This, in turn, allows the user to identify warning signs thereby enabling him/her to improve maintenance practices.
When used in conjunction with the UE Systems Ultratrend Data Management System Software, the UE Systems Ultraprobe® 401 Digital Grease Caddy Pro can be used to monitor a range of lubrication parameters:
- The amount of lubricant applied to each bearing
- Grease type
- Baseline dB levels
- dB levels before applying grease
- dB levels after applying grease
- The number of grease gun strokes required to apply grease
- Grease costs
- Cost analysis
- Trend bearing condition
Heavy-duty headphones allow the user to listen for changes in ultrasonic signals even in noisy environments. Also expanding the UE Systems Ultraprobe® 401 Digital Grease Caddy Pro’s scope-for-use is the included swivel base mounting kit which allows it to be attached to a grease gun in such a way as to accommodate odd angles, thereby allowing the user to access bearings in awkward-to-reach locations.
In addition to this, the UE Systems Ultraprobe® 401 Digital Grease Caddy Pro includes an integrated front-end lamp for illuminating dark spaces and a magnetically mounted transducer with a docking station which enables lubrication and testing in most environments. It also includes customisable settings with eighteen setup menus allowing the operator to configure the UE Systems Ultraprobe® 401 Digital Grease Caddy Pro to suit the application. All these features add to the UE Systems Ultraprobe® 401 Digital Grease Caddy Pro’s practicality and versatility.
The UE Systems Ultraprobe® 401 Digital Grease Caddy Pro is a simple-to-use, versatile and adaptable ultrasonic detection instrument suitable for optimising time-based/preventative and condition-based bearing maintenance programs, thereby reducing bearing failure and associated downtime and repair costs.
