Testo 890 Thermal Imaging Camera

The Testo 890 Thermal Imaging Camera is an infrared-imaging camera designed for professional industrial thermography and building thermography. It is available with a choice of standard and telephoto lenses; please see the table below for more information.

The Testo 890 has a thermal resolution of 640 x 480px, providing 307 200 measurement points. SuperResolution technology can increase the thermal resolution of the Testo 890 to 1280 x 960px. The Testo 890 also has a thermal sensitivity of <40mK enabling detection and visualisation of small temperature differences.

Thermal images can be saved as JPEGs to the Testo 890’s SD card. Voice annotations, recorded using the supplied headset, can be saved with images. Moreover, the Testo 890 Thermal Imaging Camera includes an integrated digital camera with power LEDs enabling the capture of well-lit visual-light images. Digital images can be saved with corresponding thermal images to improve the ease of documentation and assignment.

Furthermore, the Testo 890 is equipped with SiteRecognition technology which means it can recognise locations and will automatically assign and archive footage captured at the location.

Lens Options

Lenses are interchangeable; each one optimises the Testo 890 for a different task:

  • 42° x 32° Standard Lens: provides a large field-of-view making the Testo 890 ideal for inspecting closer objects
  • 25° x 19° Standard Lens: ideal for preventative maintenance applications
  • 15° x 11° Telephoto Lens: capture clear images of objects at a medium or long distance from the Testo 890
  • 7° x 5.3° Super-Telephoto Lens: provides a small field-of-view for maximum resolution of very distant objects (popular for surveying high voltage lines, solar parks, large industrial plants and refineries)

Auto-focus ensures the capture of sharp images and facilitates one-handed operation of the Testo 890 which has a minimum focus distance of 10cm.

Testo IR Soft Professional Software

Archived footage can be downloaded to a PC for analysis using the Testo IR Soft Professional Software (free download). Using this software, thermographers can correct emissivity, set an unlimited amount of measuring points, determine hot and cold spots, add written comments, highlight areas that exceed acceptable limits, and create reports.

Imaging & Measurement Functions

To improve ease of operation and expand its scope-for-use, the Testo 890 includes the following imaging and measurement functions:

  • Panorama Image Assistant: individual images are combined into a panoramic image enabling entire buildings to be inspected quickly as individual images do not have to be compared or compiled.
  • Mould Measuring mode: the ambient temperature and humidity are manually entered into the Testo 890 Thermal Imaging Camera to calculate dewpoint; the surface temperature, measured by the Testo 890, is compared to this value to determine the risk of mould which is indicated using a traffic light system; an OPTIONAL radio humidity probe can be used to transfer ambient temperature and humidity readings to the Testo 890 automatically

Optional Features

In addition to compatibility with an OPTIONAL radio humidity probe, the Testo 890 can be purchased with the following ADDITIONAL features:

  • FeverDetection function: identify individuals with elevated skin temperature
  • High-temperature measurement: extends the temperature measurement range up to 1200°C
  • Process Analysis Package: record radiometric thermal footage to a PC at 33Hz and log data for three points on the image; please see the videos below for further information

To facilitate single-handed operation and a wide range of camera angles, the Testo 890 features a camcorder design with a wrist strap and rotatable, fold-out display.
