The T&R KV30-40D MK4 Test System is a high-voltage, general-purpose test instrument optimised for checking insulation systems and measuring breakdown voltage on electrical plants and components. It offers a 0 to 30kV variable output voltage and a 1.2kVA output capability. The output voltage and current are indicated on dedicated true RMS digital meters. These backlit displays have a digit height of 19mm. A zero-voltage interlock ensures that the output may only be energised with the voltage control at zero.
Additionally, an adjustable current trip protects both the output and test object. The current trip level can be adjusted in 10% stages to between 10% and 110% of the rated output. The breakdown of the test object is visibly indicated. After a trip condition, the T&R KV30-40D MK4 Test System must be manually reset before testing can resume.
Furthermore, the T&R KV30-40D MK4 Test System includes an integrated test timer allowing you to run tests of five, ten, fifteen, twenty, or thirty seconds or one, two, three, or five minutes. An audible alarm will alert you when the test has ended.
Housed in a compact, portable case with a permanently connected 2m-long HV output lead, the T&R KV30-40D MK4 Test System features automatic mains voltage selection and includes an external 24V DC interlock circuit for connection to emergency off switches and enclosure interlocks. The T&R KV30-40D MK4 Test System is also supplied with a T&R ES30 Earthing Stick.
The T&R KV30-40D MK4 Test System is a robust, reliable high-voltage tester.

T&R KV30-40D MK4 Test System Technical Specifications
Supply Requirements | 115V/230V±10% auto-selecting 50/60Hz 1ph 1200VA max
Output | The output of the KV30-40D mk3 is supplied via a permanently connected partially screened high voltage cable. This stows in the lid for transit along with the ES30 earthing stick. |
||
The output of the KV30-40D is rated at 40mA on a duty cycle of 5 minutes on/15 minutes off or 20mA continuously. These ratings are based on an ambient temperature of 25°C. |
|||
Metering | The output voltage and current are metered by large, accurate true RMS digital meters. The meters are backlit and have a digit height of 19mm. |
||
Test Timer | |||
Meter | Full Scale | Resolution | Accuracy |
kV | 35.0kV | 0.01kV | ±0.5% rdg±4d |
mA | 50.0mA | 0.02mA | ±0.15% rdg±4d |
Note | A pre-selectable test timer is provided for timed tests of 5, 10, 15, 20, 30 seconds, 1, 2, 3 or 5 minutes. An alarm sounds when the test time has ended.
Overload Protection | Two overload protection circuits are provided on the units. The first is user selectable, and allows trip currents between 10% and 110% of the rated output to be set. A trip condition is indicated by an illuminated push button and an audible alarm. The second trip circuit is a magnetic circuit breaker operating on the primary of the HV transformer. This operates on large overloads (such as flashovers).
Protection and Safety | In addition to the output protection the input and control supplies are protected by fuses. All units are designed to meet the requirements of BS EN61010. An earth terminal is provided on the transformer which must be connected to a low-impedance local earth. An emergency stop will cut all power to the output when activated. |
