The Socket & See PDL PRO High-Resolution Loop Tester is a no trip, high-current and high-resolution digital earth loop impedance tester. It can be used to perform the following test sequences.
Loop No Trip L-E
This test sequence is designed to measure system loop impedance (Zs) in circuits protected by an RCD. This test is a 3-wire test and, in order to prevent the build-up of leakage which may cause the RCD to trip, it is recommended that all non-essential electrical appliances are disconnected.
Loop High-Current L-E
This test is optimised for checking the external loop impedance (Ze) at a distribution board downstream from any RCDs. Using this test it is also possible to measure system loop impedance (Zs) where the circuit is not protected by an RCD.
High-Resolution L-E/ L-N
This high-current test allows the user to measure the external loop impedance or system loop impedance at a place where the circuit is not protected by an RCD. Test results will be indicated, via the Socket & See PDL PRO High-Resolution Loop Tester’s large, backlit display, to a resolution of 1 mΩ.
The above test sequences can be performed using the Hands-Free function. Using the rotary dial the Socket & See PDL PRO High-Resolution Loop Tester is set to the desired test, the operator then presses the HANDSFREE button to engage this function. Once the Hands-free function is engaged and the Socket & See PDL PRO High-Resolution Loop Tester has determined that the voltage and polarity parameters are correct, it will perform the specified test without the user having to press the TEST button.
In addition to this Hands-Free function, the Socket & See PDL PRO High-Resolution Loop Tester includes a range of other functions including a Volts L-N/ L-E/ N-E function which allows the user to cycle through and view the L-N (default), L-E and N-E voltages (AC).
The Socket & See PDL PRO High-Resolution Loop Tester’s PFC/ PSC function can be used to determine and display the PFC (Prospective Fault Current) and PSC (Prospective Short Circuit) values. These measurements are calculated using the results of the loop test. The Socket & See PDL PRO High-Resolution Loop Tester’s true-impedance technique ensures that PFC and PSC values are calculated accurately in the event of a short circuit between the live conductors.
The Socket & See PDL PRO High-Resolution Loop Tester also features an Auto Switch Off function which is activated when the instrument has been idle for three minutes, thereby conserving the unit’s battery life.
Measurements are indicated via the Socket & See PDL PRO High-Resolution Loop Tester’s large, backlit display which illuminates upon start-up and remains illuminated throughout testing, making this instrument suitable for use in dark areas. Additionally, the Socket & See PDL PRO High-Resolution Loop Tester is equipped with a secure, protective rubber boot ensuring that it can be used in rugged environments.
Moreover, the Socket & See PDL PRO High-Resolution Loop Tester is fully protected against accidental phase-to-phase connection and features a polarity test pad for identifying potentially dangerous polarity reversals. If the polarity test pad is touched and the Voltage/ Polarity LED flashes red and a warning tone is emitted, this indicates that a potentially dangerous polarity reversal is present.
