The Megger TDR2050 Dual Channel Power Plus Time Domain Reflectometer can be used to locate faults on paired metallic cables such as those present in power circuits used for street lighting. For a quick introduction to this product, please see the following video.
The Megger TDR2050 Dual Channel Power Plus Time Domain Reflectometer has a maximum range of 20 km/ 65 kft (dependent on the velocity factor and cable type). Distances can be displayed in either metres or feet and to a minimum resolution of 0.1m/ 0.3 ft. This cable fault locator also features a range of output impedances: 25Ω, 50Ω, 75Ω, 100Ω and 140Ωm, as well as an automatic impedance matching feature. To ensure that the Megger TDR2050 Dual Channel Power Plus Time Domain Reflectometer can meet the cable requirements of any cable, the velocity factor can be set between 0.2 and 0.99.
The Megger TDR2050 Dual Channel Power Plus Time Domain Reflectometer’s Auto Selection function ensures that the instrument is always set to the most effective parameters for the application. It will select the relevant gain and pulse for each range and matches the output impedance to the cable. This improves the rapidity with which traces can be diagnosed. It is possible to override the Auto Selection function allowing the user to configure the Megger TDR2050 Dual Channel Power Plus Time Domain Reflectometer in order to identify hard-to-determine faults.
In addition to an Auto Selection function, the Megger TDR2050 Dual Channel Power Plus Time Domain Reflectometer also includes a number of features and functions designed to aid with the precision, ease and efficiency of fault location.
Dual Trace and Dual Cursor
These capabilities increase the flexibility and adaptability of the Megger TDR2050 Dual Channel Power Plus Time Domain Reflectometer: the operator has complete control and will receive an instant indication of the distance between two points.
Trace Comparison
Facilitates comprehensive examinations of trace conditions, allowing the user to identify key events quickly, accurately and reliably.
Step TDR Function – UNIQUE to the TDR2050
Optimised for detecting near-end faults that are often missed due to the dead zone effect caused by the standard pulse of TDRs. A standard pulse can mask near-end faults making them impossible to detect; the inclusion of a step function prevents this from happening.
When engaged the Step TDR function will inject the cable-under-investigation with a 2ns pulse signal at full strength and will maintain this injection until a disturbance is detected.
Distance Dependent Gain – UNIQUE to the TDR2050
This function gradually increases the gain along the returned signal in order to prevent the drop off of signal attenuation on longer lines. This feature proves particularly useful when determining a more even representation of the attenuation at all the points along the trace.
AutoFind Mode
When the AutoFind mode’s button is pressed the Megger TDR2050 Dual Channel Power Plus Time Domain Reflectometer will adjust the range and gain automatically to facilitate the most efficient and effective way of identifying faults. A single press of the AutoFind button will also place the cursor at the first event on the cable; when pressed a second time the cursor will move to the next detected disturbance.
The Megger TDR2050 Dual Channel Power Plus Time Domain Reflectometer’s integrated AutoFind mode is ideal for identifying faults quickly.
FindEnd Function – UNIQUE to the TDR2050
Designed for measuring cable length, this function will automatically search the trace to identify the cable’s endpoint, providing a length measurement.
This function can be manually overridden allowing the operator to refine the search in order to identify the fault.
Another feature unique to the Megger TDR2050 Dual Channel Power Plus Time Domain Reflectometer is its 600V CAT IV input protection filter; this allows the user to connect the instrument to live circuits thereby expanding its scope-for-use.
Measurements and traces are viewable via the Megger TDR2050 Dual Channel Power Plus Time Domain Reflectometer’s large, high resolution, colour, WVGA display. The display’s white backlight and user-settable colour palettes, as well as the Megger TDR2050 Dual Channel Power Plus Time Domain Reflectometer’s high resolution, improves the ease with which key events within the trace can be identified.
The Megger TDR2050 Dual Channel Power Plus Time Domain Reflectometer includes eight user-settable colour schemes, including the default and outdoor palettes. This cable fault locator also includes two custom slots that allow the user to specify the colour of up to seven screen elements, allowing him/her to tailor the Megger TDR2050 Dual Channel Power Plus Time Domain Reflectometer’s display to his/her preferences.
The ability to alter the Megger TDR2050 Dual Channel Power Plus Time Domain Reflectometer’s colour schemes allows the user to tailor the tester to his/her environment. It also accommodates for eye conditions such as colour blindness.
Traces can be saved to the Megger TDR2050 Dual Channel Power Plus Time Domain Reflectometer’s internal memory. It has the capacity to accommodate up to one-hundred traces saved with unique identifiers. Traces may be saved with a name consisting of up to 32 alphanumeric characters including capital letters and accents.
Saved traces can be recalled to the display, allowing the user to conduct further analysis and/or compare the recorded trace with the active trace. The Megger TDR2050 Dual Channel Power Plus Time Domain Reflectometer’s directional control buttons and soft keys provide intuitive and easy operation of the instrument, allowing the user to access saved results, functions, features and modes simply and quickly.
It is also possible to export data to a PC via a USB port and using the supplied USB lead and Megger TraceXpert Software. The Megger TraceXpert Software can be used to download and upload data as well as create reports. This software program is optimised for ease-of-use and facilitates simple and effective data processing.
Finally, in addition to accuracy, versatility and flexibility, the Megger TDR2050 Dual Channel Power Plus Time Domain Reflectometer has been optimised for practicality and as such features a compact, rugged, IP54-rated design. It is also equipped with a Li-ion rechargeable battery capable of supplying up to twelve hours of power.
The Megger TDR2050 Dual Channel Power Plus Time Domain Reflectometer is a compact, comprehensive and customisable cable fault locator optimised for precision and efficiency.
