The Megger MTR105 Rotating Machine Tester is a handheld, durable and versatile static motor tester. The Megger MTR105 Rotating Machine Tester can also be used as an insulation resistance tester, DLRO (Digital Low Resistance Ohmmeter), voltmeter and LCR meter. Additionally, it is equipped with a thermocouple for measuring the temperature of the units-under-investigation; this, in turn, facilitates temperature-compensated insulation resistance tests.
For a quick introduction to the Megger MTR105 Rotating Machine Tester's measurement capabilities please see the following video and bullet points.
Insulation Resistance Tests
- Range: 100Ω to 200GΩ
- Supports PI, DAR, timed and temperature compensation
- Stabilised insulation test voltage provides a more accurate test voltage without risking over-voltage damage to circuits or components. The output voltage is maintained between 0 and 2% throughout the test range and is accurate to ±2V
- Variable test voltage range: 10V to 999V. This allows the user to select the exact voltage when a non-standard voltage is required; this voltage is also subject to stabilised output control (above)
- Buzzer button: ON, VISUAL or OFF options
- The buzzer can be adjusted to accommodate the required minimum resistance limit: 0.5MΩ to 1000MΩ
- Buzzer alert issued when the test has been passed
Voltmeter
- 10 mV to 1000V AC
- 0 to 1000V DC
- TRMS: 15Hz to 400 Hz
- Three-phase supply and direction of rotation
Continuity (Resistance) Test
- Single automatic resistance range: 0.01Ω to 1.0MΩ
- Automatic test current selection uses the preferred test current for the load resistance under investigation (200 mA up to 4Ω)
- Bi-directional test: automatically reverses the current, removing the need to reconnect the test leads
- Lead Resistance Compensation/ NULL: nullifies up to 10Ω of test lead resistance
- Dedicated buzzer switch: ON, VISUAL or OFF
- When a test is passed the buzzer will sound
- The buzzer can be programmed to accommodate the maximum resistance limit: 1Ω to 200Ω in 12 steps
DLRO: Four-Wire Kelvin Low Resistance
- Automatic resistance range: 1mΩ to 10Ω
- 200mA test current
- Auto and manual test options
- Bi-direction and single direction options
- Bi-directional tests automatically reverse the current removing the need to reconnect leads
Motor Direction of Test
- The motor is rotated in one direction and the phase sequence is indicated on the display
- The motor is rotated in the opposite direction; the phases are checked and indicated on the display
Inductance, Capacitance and Resistance Meter (LCR)
- Auto inductive, capacitive and resistive tests
- Selectable frequency: 120Hz or 1000Hz
- Auto mode: automatically determines and indicates whether the main element of the load is inductive, capacitive or resistive
- Selectable inductance and capacitance test
Test results are indicated via the Megger MTR105 Rotating Machine Tester’s full-colour graphic display. The test results for up to 256 motors can be recorded to the Megger MTR105 Rotating Machine Tester; these results can be downloaded to a USB drive. Test results downloaded to a USB device can be accessed by plugging the USB into a PC with Megger’s PowerDB Test Data Management Software installed.
Required tests are easily accessible using the rotary dial; other practical features present on the Megger MTR105 Rotating Machine Tester include guard terminals designed to eliminate surface leakage current whilst detachable test leads with interchangeable clips and probes allow the user to adapt this handheld static motor tester for various applications quickly and easily.
Additionally, the Megger MTR105 Rotating Machine Tester has been constructed to include a tough, rubber over-moulding laid on top of a strong modified ABS housing: the rubber over-moulding provides shock-absorbing outer protection whilst improving the Megger MTR105 Rotating Machine Tester’s grip. This robust instrument has an environmental protection rating of IP54 ensuring that the entire unit, including the battery and fuse compartment, is protected against dust and water ingress.
Further to this, the Megger MTR105 Rotating Machine Tester is equipped with several safety features and has a safety protection rating of CAT III 600V up to 3000m. This instrument is also compliant with IEC61010 and IEC61557 requirements. Its fast-detecting circuitry reduces the possibility of damage to the unit if it is accidentally connected to live circuits or across phases; it will issue a notification when accidentally connected to a live circuit, as well as halt the testing procedure (except when conducting direction of rotation measurements). The Megger MTR105 Rotating Machine Tester also features detection and inhibit functions when the protection fuse has failed and features a user-selectable insulation test terminal lockout voltage (25V, 30V, 50V and 75V, the default is 50V).
The Megger MTR105 Rotating Machine Tester’s extensive testing capabilities and durable, safe design make it suitable for a variety of applications across a range of industry sectors. For example, this instrument can be used across the utilities, industrial, OEM, service and transport industries in the following capacities:
- Testing repaired and refurbished motors and generators
- Monitoring and maintaining in-service motors (offline) in the field
- Testing newly manufactured motors and generators
The Megger MTR105 Rotating Machine Tester is a versatile, real-world handheld motor tester, voltmeter, DLRO, insulation resistance tester and LCR meter suitable for checking a range of motors across numerous industries.
