The Megger MIT485/2 is the most advanced tester in the MIT480/2 series. The new MIT480/2 series replaces the previous MIT480 series, therefore, this MIT485/2 Insulation and Continuity Tester replaces the MIT485 Tester.
The new series of MIT480 Insulation and Continuity Testers have been optimised for use specifically in the telecommunications and testing markets.
Like the previous version, this product includes Bluetooth technology, allowing the data stored in the MIT485/2's integrated memory to be downloaded to a compatible device such as a PC. This way you can save time and effort managing your records by letting your tester do all the work for you! The test results are saved as a CSV file which is viewable as an Excel spreadsheet on PCs.
Testing insulation with the MIT485/2 is easy, quick and safe. It features multiple insulation test voltages, 50V, 100V, 250V and 500V, and can test insulation levels up to 100GΩ. It's also capable of testing AC voltage to 600V (true-RMS), capacitance from 0.1nF to 10μF, frequency from 15 to 400Hz and comes with continuity testing functions with variable current and adjustable fast buzzer. This model features the added capability of calculating the difference between two consecutive continuity tests. Some of the other new features on this model are:
The new MIT485/2 also includes a number of functions and features present on the previous MIT485 Telecom Insulation and Continuity Tester.
Voltage and Current Testing
As indicated above this instrument can be used to take true-RMS measurements of voltages up to 600V AC/DC with a resolution of 0.1mV. It can take digital and analogue arc voltage measurements and will automatically display the frequency during this measurement. The MIT485/2 Telecom Insulation and Continuity Tester is able to take current measurements between ø and 400mA AC/DC.
Insulation Resistance and Continuity Testing
The Megger MIT485/2 Telecom Insulation and Continuity Tester can test continuity at 200mA or 20ma; can take differential continuity measurements; features an adjustable continuity buzzer and will display the relevant REN value. In addition to this, it also includes a lead nulling feature which remains operational to up to 10Ω of resistance.
When conducting insulation resistance tests the user can also set an adjustable buzzer to his/her desired limit, if this value is breached the buzzer will alert the user. This instrument also includes a variable insulation test voltage which ranges from 10V to 500V and can be adjusted using increments of 1V. The insulation test voltage is feedback controlled. This ensures that it remains accurate (+2% and -0%) and consistent throughput testing, thereby preventing damage to circuits caused by over-voltage.
This instrument also includes a Test Lock function which holds the insulation test on continuously and a Test Inhibit function. The latter function prevents the user from conducting a resistance test if the MIT485/2 tester detects that the voltage is in excess of the user-defined limit.
Safety and Design
The Megger MIT485/2 Telecom Insulation and Continuity Tester has an IP rating of 54 and meets the following safety specifications:
Its Test Inhibition and Live Circuit Protection functions prevent damage to the user and instrument should the tester be accidentally connected to a live circuit or across phases. The Test Inhibition function remains operational even if the fuse has failed. Further to this, the Megger MIT485/2 also displays the live circuit voltage on all ranges.
The Megger MIT485/2 Telecom Insulation and Continuity Tester has a rugged, shock absorbing, modified ABS casing making it suitable for use across a variety of environments.
Display
The Megger MIT485/2 Telecom Insulation and Continuity Tester includes a full display with an analogue arc which indicates the change and discharge characteristics which cannot be viewed on a digital display.
Using this display the user can access the setup functions which enable him/her to tailor the adjustable buzzer to his/her preferences.
Finally, the Megger MIT485/2 Tester includes a dual digital display. The large digital display clearly indicates the measurement results, whilst the second, smaller digital display details additional information such as the insulation test voltage; insulation leakage current; supply frequency and differential measurements.
