Test fluorescent, low-pressure sodium (SOX), high-pressure sodium, neon/tubes, mercury vapour, and metal halogen lamps with the Martindale FL30 lamp tester.
The tester works by ionising gas-filled lamps with a high-frequency voltage of approximately 3kV. Simply touch the contact electrode at the top of the unit to the lamp you're testing, then study how the lamp reacts.
This video from Martindale outlines in further detail how to test each lamp type.
Lamps out of reach? The FL30 is supplied as standard with a telescopic antenna, allowing fluorescent and neon tubes to be tested without the need for removal, or the need to use ladders or platforms.
