The Kern MWA Wheelchair Platform Scales are available in two models. These models feature the same weighing range and weighing surface dimensions.
The scales differ in that the Kern MWA 300K-1PM Wheelchair Platform Scale is supplied with a handrail featuring a column upon which the display unit is mounted; the handrail increases the safety with which the patient can ascend and descend the scale whether he/she is in a wheelchair or walking. The handrail can be folded away allowing the medical professional to tailor the scale to the patient’s requirements; he/she can be weighed either in a wheelchair or while standing.
The Kern MWA 300K-1M Wheelchair Platform Scale is NOT supplied with a handrail and display column, the display unit is connected to the weighing platform via a cable allowing the user to move the display unit into a better reading position when necessary.
Both models are equipped with access ramps which, like the Kern MWA 300K-1PM Wheelchair Platform Scale’s handrail, can be folded away quickly, ensuring easy transportation. Additionally, these scales can be powered using a mains power supply, replaceable batteries or an internal, rechargeable battery pack allowing the medical practitioner to tailor the scales to his/her surroundings, again ensuring that the scales can be transported between patients’ and doctors’ rooms without compromising their functionality.
The Kern MWA Wheelchair Platform Scales are approved as medical instruments according to 93/42/EEC. They can also be purchased with an OPTIONAL Kern MIII Verification (see ‘Accessories’) which is essential if the scales are to be used in any medical capacity within EU member states.
The scales' easy access from either side and low-profile, large, steel weighing platform also make them ideal for weighing elderly and obese patients, as well as patients in wheelchairs. The Kern MWA Wheelchair Platform Scales’ level indicators ensure that measurements are conducted precisely.
In addition to measuring weight, the Kern MWA Wheelchair Platform Scales also include a selection of functions optimised to improve the efficiency, safety and ease of measurements. To this end, they include a Hold function which will determine an average weight when weighing conditions are unsteady. This average value is then frozen on the large, backlit, LCD display with a digit height of 25mm. The Hold function is of particular use when weighing unsteady patients as it provides the medical professional with time to attend to the patient before recording the best weight value.
These scales also feature a BMI function allowing the medical practitioner to determine whether an individual is of a normal weight, is underweight or is overweight.
Finally, these IP65 scales are equipped with an RS-232 interface facilitating data transfer to a computer or compatible Kern printer (see ‘Accessories’).
The Kern MWA Wheelchair Platform Scales are easy-to-use and efficient balances optimised for safely and accurately weighing patients of varying mobilities.
