About Cable Spiking Equipment
The purpose of cable spiking is to prove that the cable spiked is not live. Cable spiking using the correct tools provides evidence of the state of the LV, MV, or HV cable but it should not be taken as proof of the identity of the cable.
In the UK, cables are usually spiked using an approved spiking tool or gun (cartridge or hydraulic type) at any point at which the cable is to be cut.
Spiking cartridges and an insulating blanket are also available, they can be purchased separately from the spiking kits and spikers.
