The HD Electric Quick-Check Transformer & Capacitor Testers can be used to check power distribution systems for opens and shorts. There are four versions of HD Electric’s Quick-Check Transformer & Capacitor Tester available: two manual self-test versions and two automatic self-test models. Please see the ‘What’s Included?’ section for further details.
Models with a manual self-test feature self-test tabs on the side of the unit for checking the HD Electric Quick-Check Transformer & Capacitor Tester's functionality; automatic self-test versions will automatically check the battery, lights, buzzer and electronics when the TEST button is pushed. These testers are powered by a 9V lithium/ alkaline battery and will cease to operate when the battery becomes low, indicating that it requires changing.
All of the HD Electric Quick-Check Transformer & Capacitor Testers are supplied with large copper alligator clips with heavy-duty boots, as well as heavy-duty rubber insulated coiled test leads. It is possible to purchase these testers with a magnet allowing them to be attached to the sides of units/ machinery thereby facilitating handsfree operation.
Each of the HD Electric Quick-Check Transformer & Capacitor Testers features a single push-button operating system. This compact, lightweight and simple-to-use tester will continue to run checks for as long as the button is pressed. This tool can be used in the following capacities:
In addition to testing 1Ø and 3Ø transformers, such as overhead, pad-mounted, potential and other distribution transformers, the HD Electric Quick-Check Transformer & Capacitor Tester can be used to check capacitors and capacitor banks. It is able to distinguish between transformers and capacitors automatically and will indicate that the capacitor is not internally shorted or open via the ‘Capacitor OK’ LED indicator. It can be used to test individual capacitors, as well as those connected in a capacitor bank.
Super bright LEDs indicate when test results are OK, as well as when the HD Electric Quick-Check Transformer & Capacitor Tester has detected an open circuit or short circuit. In addition to distinguishing between short and open circuits, the HD Electric Quick-Check Transformer & Capacitor Tester can differentiate between a true short and a low instance of transformer winding. When a test has been successful, the HD Electric Quick-Check Transformer & Capacitor Tester will also issue an audible alert.
The HD Electric Quick-Check Transformer & Capacitor Tester is an ergonomic, easy-to-use high-voltage instrument with extensive testing capabilities. It is ideal for quickly and easily checking de-energised transformers for major defects prior to energising and can be instrumental in preventing line workers from installing a fuse on a shorted transformer or capacitor.
