HD Electric Hi-Test MOV Arrester and Leakage Tester – 15kV AC

The HD Electric Hi-Test MOV Arrester and Leakage Tester is a high voltage tester with a limited current. It can be used for a range of troubleshooting, quality assurance, cost-saving and training applications.

The HD Electric Hi-Test MOV Arrester and Leakage Tester -15kV AC can be used to test MOV arresters up to a 15kV AC class; please note that this instrument cannot be used to test gap type or hybrid MOV/ gap type arresters such as Hubbell Optima and Cooper VariGAP. This instrument is also capable of testing fuses, transformer bushings and tank lids, as well as bell type, distribution class polymers, and cross arm pin insulators that are within the HD Electric Hi-Test MOV Arrester and Leakage Tester’s voltage range. The HD Electric Hi-Test MOV Arrester and Leakage Tester has a DC output voltage range of 0 to 21 kV.

The HD Electric Hi-Test MOV Arrester and Leakage Tester is designed to perform safe, non-destructive tests and can be used to troubleshoot the causes of blinking lights and radio and television interference: these problems are often caused by non-visible damage to arresters and distribution boards. It is also possible to test MOV arresters for shorts and sparkover voltages using the HD Electric Hi-Test MOV Arrester and Leakage Tester.

Tests are conducted by connecting the HD Electric Hi-Test MOV Arrester and Leakage Tester’s test leads to the top and bottom of the instrument-under-investigation, a DC voltage is then applied to the component. To determine the exact voltage at which an arrester conducts the user can alter the potential difference that is applied. The applied voltage, as well as the measured leakage current, are viewable via the dedicated bright, easy-to-read LED displays.

The LED display for voltage indicates DC voltages with AC equivalent increments, whilst the LED scale for leakage current increases in increments of 5mA up to 50mA; if the current exceeds the upper limit the HD Electric Hi-Test MOV Arrester and Leakage Tester will show a ‘full-on’ display. Via these displays, the user can see the current leakage for any applied voltage. He/she can also use the HD Electric Hi-Test MOV Arrester and Leakage Tester to determine the maximum voltage that the arrester can support when at full conduction.

As the user is able to increase the amount of voltage applied to the instrument-under-investigation, the HD Electric Hi-Test MOV Arrester and Leakage Tester can be used to demonstrate the function and behaviour of arresters and other components when the potential difference is increased.

Additionally, the testing capabilities of the HD Electric Hi-Test MOV Arrester and Leakage Tester makes it suitable for ascertaining the quality of new arresters and insulators prior to installation. It can also be used to identify arresters and insulators that are functional and may be reused. This allows the user to manage his/her materials budget more effectively.

The portable, lightweight design of the HD Electric Hi-Test MOV Arrester and Leakage Tester makes it suitable for use across various locations, including on-site, in transformer rebuild shops, maintenance yards, and training facilities.

Additionally, to facilitate handsfree usage, this instrument is supplied with a pivoting handle and belt clip. It can be used for three to five days without recharge due to the inclusion of a sealed, lead-acid, rechargeable 12V DC battery. The Auto Shut-off feature also ensures that battery life is preserved when the HD Electric Hi-Test MOV Arrester and Leakage Tester is not in operation.
