The HD Electric CT-300 Cleartest® Transformer Tester can be used to ascertain the health of transformers. This instrument briefly energises the transformer in order to determine the voltage, current and power factor of the test signal thereby providing a snapshot of the transformer’s condition.
The HD Electric CT-300 Cleartest® Transformer Tester tests inside, outside and between the transformer and will check the coil, core, winding and anything connected to the transformer including the revenue meter. The HD Electric Cleartest® Transformer Tester is suitable for testing all transformer types including single, three-phase and new or reworked transformers.
The ClearTest sequence is engaged by pressing the ‘Test’ button; an audible alarm alerts the user that the test sequence has been completed. The HD Electric CT-300 Cleartest® Transformer Tester will indicate whether test results are ‘OK’ or whether a ‘Short’ or ‘Open’ circuit has been detected via the LED display.
The HD Electric CT-300 Cleartest® Transformer Tester is capable of detecting the following transformer defects before the transformer is energised:
- A single shortened turn in the primary or secondary side of a transformer
- Open coils or blown internal fuses or breakers
- Partial shorts such as shorted turns, shorted turn layers, coil to core shorts and primary to secondary shorts
- Bad transformer ratios caused by shorted turns
The primary and secondary sides of the de-energised transformer can be tested without disconnecting the HD Electric CT-300 from the transformer-under-investigation. Furthermore, quick verification that the secondary connections are not shorted prevents the user from installing a fuse on a shorted transformer.
In addition to the above checks, the HD Electric CT-300 Cleartest® Transformer Tester includes an integrated self-test to ensure correct functionality.
The HD Electric Cleartest® Transformer Tester’s measurement capabilities and simple operating and indication system, as well as its compact, lightweight design, makes it suitable for use both in the field and in the shop. When used in the field, the HD Electric CT-300 Cleartest® Transformer Tester can be used to check the primary and secondary sides of transformer installations for short circuits prior to energising. Alternatively, the HD Electric CT-300 Cleartest® Transformer Tester can quickly screen incoming and outgoing transformers for primary and secondary shorts or open circuits and is able to check internal fuses and breakers.
The HD Electric CT-300 Cleartest® Transformer Tester is equipped with a magnet to hold it in place during testing and may be purchased with either an HD Electric B-9 or B-2 Carry Case. The HD Electric B-9 Carry Case is red and features two magnets, as well as a window for viewing the tester. The HD Electric B-2 Carry Case is a padded, zipped case with a strap for the HD Electric CT-300 Cleartest® Transformer Tester.
Finally, the HD Electric CT-300 Cleartest® Transformer Tester is powered by two 9V field-replaceable lithium or alkaline batteries.
The HD Electric CT-300 Cleartest® Transformer Tester is a safe, simple and speedy tester optimised for checking the condition of de-energised power distribution system transformers. It can be used to improve SAIDI statistics through quickly testing transformers to find faults, allowing the operator to affect the necessary repairs more efficiently, thereby reducing downtime.
