The Fluke 9171-X-256 Field Metrology Well is able to provide the user with a heat source that is stable to ±0.005°C across its full temperature range. This is achieved as a result of the inclusion of Fluke’s patent-pending proprietary electronics and dual-zone control (analogue and digital). These features, as well as the inclusion of a well with a depth of 203mm, also facilitates the calibrator’s ability to provide temperature uniformity over a zone of 60mm, with an axial/vertical uniformity of up to ±0.02°C (at 0°C). The Fluke 9171-X-256 Field Metrology Well also provides a radial uniformity between wells of ±0.01°C.
The depth of the well and dual-zone controls also help to minimise loading effects, reducing them to ±0.005°C. Furthermore, a deeper well ensures that temperature probes are properly immersed thereby accounting for and testing all the characteristics of the instrument, including:
The depth of the integrated well, therefore, ensures that temperature sensing instruments are accurately calibrated. The instrument itself has been calibrated using accredited, traceable PRTs in order to ensure its accuracy. This combined with the Fluke 9171-X-256 Field Metrology Well’s proprietary electronics maintains the instrument’s repeatable, display accuracy of ±0.1°C and lowers the effects of hysteresis to 0.025°C.
All these features work to maintain the Fluke 9171-X-256 Field Metrology Well’s conformity with the six critical components of performance outlined in the European Metrology Community’s EA-10/13 document, these include:
Conformity is not compromised by the instrument’s small, rugged and lightweight design. It can be used in a variety of worksites and is particularly well suited for use in hard-to-access places.
The Fluke 9171-X-256 Field Metrology Well includes a large, LCD display where the user can view the block temperature, cut-out temperature, stability criteria and the ramp rate. A numeric keypad and on-screen menus facilitate the user’s ability to adjust the aforementioned entities; access the Switch Test protocol that zeros in on the ‘dead-band’ for thermal switches, as well as tailor the four pre-programmed calibration tasks to his/her requirements. The user is able to enter up to eight temperature set points with ‘ramp and soak’ times between each one. He/she is also able to select the desired measurement unit (°C or °F) using the dedicated function button.
Also adding to this instrument’s adaptability is its ability to display menus in English, French or Chinese.
Further to this, using the Fluke 9171-X-256 Field Metrology Well’s RS-232 serial interface and Fluke’s Model 9930 Interface-it Software the operator is able to view results remotely from his/her PC. He/she is also able to access and adjust various settings and features allowing him/her to run calibrations remotely.
Alternatively, the Fluke 9171-X-256 Field Metrology Well can be used in conjunction with Fluke’s MET/ TEMP II Software in order to perform automatic calibrations of RTDs, thermocouples and thermistors.
The Fluke 9171-X-256 Field Metrology Well – Choice of Insert is ideal for calibrating a variety of temperature sensing instruments used in an array of industries. It offers the user the accuracy, stability and uniformity of a bath temperature calibrator with the practicality and functionality of a dry well tester.
