PLEASE NOTE that these instruments do NOT include integrated reference thermometry, therefore they cannot read external PRTs with ITS-90 coefficients. Versions of these instruments with integrated reference thermometry are available here.
The disc inserts allow the user to add probes of varying diameters into the well. The well’s depth of 203mm ensures that the instrument-under-investigation is completely immersed, and all its characteristics, including the location and size of the sensor, the width and thermal mass of the probe, as well as any external leads, are included in the calibration.
The depth of this well, combined with the inclusion of Fluke’s patent-pending proprietary electronics and dual-zone controls (analogue and digital) facilitates the Fluke 9173-X-256 Field Metrology Well’s ability to provide a homogeneous temperature zone of 60mm (from the bottom of the well). These features also provide an axial/vertical uniformity of ±0.1°C to ±0.25°C, a radial uniformity of ±0.04°C to ±0.01°C and reduce loading effects to between ±0.02°C and ±0.04°C (all values are dependent on the temperature generated by the metrology well).
Reducing the effects of temperature gradients and loading impacts work to improve the display accuracy of this instrument. The Fluke 9173-X-256 Field Metrology Well has also been calibrated using accredited, traceable PRTs and as such has reduced the effects of hysteresis to 0.07°C, which, again, works to maintain the display accuracy of ±0.25°C (at 700°C), as well as the instrument’s repeatability.
Further to this, the design of the well and the inclusion of proprietary electronics and dual-zone controls provides the Fluke 9173-X-256 Field Metrology Well with a heat stability of ±0.005°C to ±0.03°C (dependent on temperature).
As a result of all these features, the Fluke 9173-X-256 Field Metrology Well fulfils the six critical components of performance detailed in the European Metrology community’s EA-10/13 document. These include:
It provides the user with the stability, uniformity and accuracy of a bath temperature calibrator contained within a unit that is compact, lightweight and rugged, thereby offering the practicality of a dry well tester. The Fluke 9173-X-256 Field Metrology Well is, therefore, suitable for use in a variety of industrial environments and/or difficult-to-access places.
Should the user find it necessary, the Fluke 9173-X-256 Field Metrology Well can be operated remotely using its RS-232 serial interface and the supplied Fluke Interface-It Software. Used together, the Interface-It Software and RS-232 interface provides the user with access to the Fluke 9173-X-256 Field Metrology Well’s features, functions and settings which may be adjusted remotely from the user’s PC. He/she is also able to view calibration results remotely from his/her PC.
Alternatively, the Fluke 9173-X-256 Field Metrology Well can be used with Fluke’s MET / TEMP II Software (NOT included) in order to conduct automated calibrations of RTDs, thermocouples and thermistors.
In addition to this, the Fluke 9173-X-256 Field Metrology Well can be configured via its front panel using the numeric keypad; large, LCD display and on-screen menus. The Fluke 9173-X-256 Field Metrology Well includes four pre-programmed calibration tasks into which the user can enter up to eight temperature set-points with ‘soak and ramp’ times between each point. This instrument also features an integrated Switch Test protocol for zeroing-in on dead-bands for thermal switches.
Via the large, LCD display the user can view the block temperature, cut-out temperature, stability criteria and ramp rate; he/she can also set the instrument to display menus in English, French or Chinese and is able to tailor the measurement units to his/her preferences via the dedicated function button (°C or °F)
The Fluke 9173-X-256 Field Metrology Well – Choice of Insert is an adaptable, practical instrument optimised to calibrate temperature sensing equipment accurately at high temperatures.
The Fluke 9173-X-256 Field Metrology Well – Choice of Insert is part of Fluke's 917X series of Metrology Wells. Please find below the technical specifications for the models included in this series.
