PLEASE NOTE that these instruments do NOT include integrated reference thermometry, therefore they cannot read external PRTs with ITS-90 coefficients. Versions of these instruments with integrated reference thermometry are available here.
The Fluke 9172-X-256 Field Metrology Well has a temperature range of 35°C to 425°C and can be used to calibrate an array of temperature sensing equipment such as thermometers, temperature probes and thermal switches. This temperature calibrator has been designed to provide the user with all the practicality and convenience of a dry-well calibrator but with the stability, uniformity and accuracy of bath temperature calibrators.
Dependent on temperatures, this instrument is able to offer a heat source with a stability of ±0.005°C to ±0.01°C. This is made possible as a result of the inclusion of Fluke’s patent-pending proprietary electronics and dual-zone control (analogue and digital). These features also help to maintain the instrument’s repeatability and display accuracy of ±0.2°C (at 425°C). Moreover, the Fluke 9172-X-256 Field Metrology Well is calibrated using accredited, traceable PRTs which, again, work to ensure and maintain the instrument’s accuracy. The precise calibration of this instrument also reduces the effects of hysteresis to 0.04°C.
In addition to this, the Fluke 9172-X-256 Field Metrology Well has been designed to keep loading effects and temperature gradients to a minimum. Again the inclusion of Fluke’s proprietary electronics and dual-zone control contribute to the reduction of these entities, as does the depth of the instrument’s well. At 203mm deep, the integrated well is able to provide the operator with a homogeneous temperature zone of 60mm (from the bottom of the well) with an axial/vertical uniformity of (up to) ± 0.05°C. The Fluke 9172-X-256 Field Metrology Well is also able to provide a radial uniformity of (up to) ±0.01°C.
The depth of the well also ensures that thermometers and probes may be properly immersed thereby reducing the possibility of stem conduction errors at high temperatures. Once more, this improves the accuracy of calibrations carried out using the Fluke 9172-X-256 Field Metrology Well.
The design, features and calibration of this instrument help to ensure that it fulfils the six critical components of performance (calibrated display accuracy, stability, axial uniformity, radial uniformity, loading effects and hysteresis) as detailed in the European Metrology Community’s EA-10/13 Document. The design of this instrument also adds to this instrument’s practicality and expands its scope-for-use. It is compact, lightweight and rugged making it suitable for use in a variety of industrial and/or hard-to-access environments.
It includes a large, LCD display which allows the user to view the block temperature, cut-out temperature, stability criteria and ramp rate quickly and easily. The numeric keypad, onscreen menus, and a function key for selecting between °C and °F facilitate the user’s ability to configure the instrument to suit the application. Moreover, this instrument includes four pre-programmed calibration tasks which can be tailored to the user’s needs via the entry of up to eight temperature set points with ‘ramp and soak’ times between each point.
In addition to this, the Fluke 9172-X-256 Field Metrology Well includes a Switch Test protocol for zeroing in on the ‘dead-band’ for thermal switches.
The instrument's RS-232 interface and the supplied Fluke Modell 9930 Interface-It Software provide the user with the option to view results and operate the Fluke 9172-X-256 Field Metrology Well remotely via his/her computer. The user is able to access and adjust the instrument’s features, functions and settings using this interface and software.
Alternatively, the Fluke 9172-X-256 Field Metrology Well may be used with Fluke’s MET / TEMP II Software (NOT included) to perform automated calibrations of RTDs, thermocouples and thermistors.
The Fluke 9172-X-256 Field Metrology Well – Choice of Insert is an adaptable, versatile and practical instrument ideal for calibrating a variety of temperature sensing instruments used in an array of industry sectors.
