However, unlike its sister product, the Fluke 9170-X-R-256 Field Metrology Well includes integrated reference thermometry. This additional feature facilitates the metrology well’s ability to accept and read 100Ω, 25Ω and 10Ω PRTs. It is compatible with every Fluke PRT and can be used to read thermometer probes to an accuracy of ±0.006°C (at 0°C). Adding to its accuracy is its ability to accept unique ITS-90 characterisation coefficients from these PRTs, thereby allowing the operator to utilise the accuracy of these thermometers. Moreover, the integrated reference thermometry is supplied with a traceable, accredited calibration.
In fact, the whole unit has been calibrated using accredited, traceable PRTs and this, combined with the inclusion of Fluke’s patent-pending proprietary electronics, helps to maintain the instrument’s full-range ±0.1°C accuracy.
Maintaining accuracy and reliability is at the forefront of this product's design and, to this end, it has been optimised to reduce the effects of temperature gradients, loading impacts and hysteresis. Its accredited calibration helps to reduce the hysteresis to 0.025°C, whilst this instrument’s well design and dual-zone (analogue and digital) control minimise temperature gradients and loading effects.
This instrument includes a well with a depth of 160mm (6.3-inches) which both facilitates the instruments ability to create and maintain temperatures as low as -45°C, as well as ensure that the probes-under-investigation are fully immersed, thereby ensuring that all the probe’s characteristics (such as the location and size of the sensor, the width and mass of the probe and its lead wires) are accounted for and tested. This depth also reduces loading effects to (up to) ±0.005°C (at -35°C).
The Fluke 9170-X-R-256 Field Metrology Well is able to provide the user with a homogenous temperature zone spanning 60mm from the bottom of the well. It is also capable of proving an axial/ vertical uniformity of up to ±0.02°C within the well (at 0°C) and radial uniformity between wells of ±0.01°C over its full temperature range.
In addition to this, the Fluke 9170-X-R-256 Field Metrology Well has a full range stability of ±0.005°C, again working to maintain its reliability and accuracy.
As indicated above, the Fluke 9170-X-R-256 Field Metrology Well does not compromise on the six critical components of performance (calibrated display accuracy, stability, axial uniformity, radial uniformity, loading effects and hysteresis) outlined by the EA-10/13. It combines this excellent performance with an ergonomic design ensuring that the user is equipped with the stability and accuracy of a bath calibrator but with the convenience and practicality of a dry well tester.
This temperature calibrator has been designed to be rugged, compact and lightweight, ensuring that it can be used in a variety of environments, including hard-to-access places. Its large, LCD display allows the user to view the block temperature, built-in reference thermometer temperature, cut-out temperature, stability criteria and ramp rate. It includes a numeric keypad and on-screen menus, as well as a function button allowing the user to select his/her desired temperature unit (°C or °F), allowing the user’s to configure the instrument to his/her needs. Menus can be set to display in English, French or Chinese.
Using the simple and intuitive interface, the user is able to access four pre-programmed calibration tasks into which he/she can enter up to eight temperature set points and any necessary ‘ramp and soak times’. The Fluke 9170-X-R-256 Field Metrology Well also includes a Switch Test protocol that zeros in on the ‘dead-band’ for thermal switches.
The adaptability of this instrument is further extended by the inclusion of an RS-232 serial interface and Fluke’s Interface-It Software. These features can be used together in order to access and adjust the Fluke 9170-X-R-256 Field Metrology Well’s functions remotely from a PC. Using this software and interface the operator can conduct calibration procedures and view results remotely.
Alternatively, the Fluke 9170-X-R-256 Field Metrology Well can be used with Fluke’s MET/ TEMP II Software (NOT included) in order to perform automated calibrations of RTDs, thermocouples and thermistors.
The Fluke 9170-X-R-256 Field Metrology Well with Built-in Reference Thermometry is a versatile, accurate, reliable, adaptable and practical temperature calibrator, suitable for use within an array of industries.
