PLEASE NOTE the Fluke 9170-X-256 Field Metrology Well – Choice of Insert does NOT include built-in electronics and so CANNOT read external PRTs with ITS-90 characterisations.
The Fluke 9170-X-256 Field Metrology Well has a temperature range of -45°C to 140°C. The well present in this instrument has a depth of 160mm (6.3-inches) in order to both facilitate the creation of temperatures as low as -45°C and ensure the complete immersion of temperature probes, ensuring that all the characteristics of the temperature probe (such as the location and size of the sensor, the width and thermal mass of the probe and any lead wires) are accounted for and tested.
Uniformity of temperature throughout the well and between wells is facilitated by the instrument’s unique proprietary electronics (patent pending) and dual-zone (analogue and digital) control. This means that the Fluke 9170-X-256 Field Metrology Well is able to provide a homogenous temperature zone over 60mm from the bottom of the well, with an axial/ vertical uniformity of up to ±0.02°C (at 0°C). It has a radial uniformity of ±0.01°C over the full temperature range.
Further to this, the Fluke 9170-X-256 Field Metrology Well has been optimised to reduce the influence of loading effects and hysteresis on the display accuracy of the calibrator. Loading effects are reduced to as low as ±0.005°C (at -35°C) as a result of the aforementioned well depth and dual-zone control. Hysteresis is kept as low as 0.025°C as a result of this instrument’s sophisticated, high-quality and meticulously manufactured design. For instance, the Fluke 9170-X-256 Field Metrology Well is calibrated using traceable, accredited PRTs.
In addition to this, the inclusion of Fluke’s proprietary electronics ensures that it is able to continuously display readings that are always consistent with the instrument’s specified accuracy of ±0.1°C over the full range. Moreover, the Fluke 9170-X-256 Field Metrology Well is able to provide the user with a stability of ±0.005°C over its full range, again improving the accuracy and reliability of this instrument.
Via the large, LCD display the user is able to view the block temperature, cut-out temperature, stability criteria and ramp rate. Using the numeric keypad and on-screen menus the operator is able to configure the Fluke 9170-X-256 Field Metrology Well as he/she deems it necessary. The menu and navigation system is intuitive, simple-to-use and may be set to display in English, French or Chinese.
In addition to switching between languages, the user may also change measurement units (°C or °F) via a dedicated function button. Also adding to the Fluke 9170-X-256 Field Metrology Well’s ease-of-use is its four pre-programmed calibration tasks into which the user can enter up to eight temperature set points with ‘ramp and soak’ times between each set point. Additionally, this metrology well includes a Switch Test protocol that zeros in on the ‘dead-band’ for thermal switches.
The operator is also able to utilise the Fluke 9170-X-256 Field Metrology Well’s RS-232 serial interface and supplied Fluke Interface-It Software to view results remotely on his/her PC. He/she can also access and make adjustments to the instrument’s functions, thereby allowing him/her to conduct calibration procedures remotely.
Alternatively, this instrument can be used with Fluke’s Model 9938 MET/ TEMP II Software (NOT included) in order to conduct completely automated calibrations of RTDs, thermocouples and thermistors.
Finally, in terms of its practicality, the Fluke 9170-X-256 Field Metrology Well has been designed to be compact and lightweight, ensuring that it can be easily transported between worksites and used within a variety of environments, including hard-to-access places.
Despite its ergonomic size, the Fluke 9170-X-256 Field Metrology Well does not compromise on the six critical components of performance outlined by the EA-10/13; these include calibrated display accuracy, stability, axial uniformity, radial uniformity, loading effects and hysteresis. This product is ideal for those requiring the accuracy and stability of a bath temperature calibrator but with the practicality of a dry-well tester. The Fluke 9170-X-256 Field Metrology Well – Choice of Insert is ideal for a variety of temperature calibration applications within the pharmaceutical industry.
