The Fluke 4180-256 Infrared Calibrator has a temperature range of -15 to 120°C; it is suitable for calibrating infrared thermometers and thermal cameras.
It includes a large target size of 152mm (6-inches) and has been radiometrically, traceably calibrated in order to ensure that infrared thermometers and thermal cameras are calibrated accurately. As a result, the Fluke 4180-256 Infrared Calibrator is able to offer consistent, reliable and traceable results and has an accuracy of between ±0.04°C and ±0.55°C (depending on the temperature).
The sophisticated design of this instrument ensures that corrections for emissivity are performed automatically, removing the need for manual calculations and allowing for a legitimate test uncertainty ratio (TUR) of 4:1.
Ensuring that the thermometer- or thermal imager-under-investigation reads the correct temperature is made easy by the inclusion of a large target area. It accommodates the field of view and calibration geometry requirements of a variety of commonly used infrared thermometers and thermal imagers. This eliminates the size-of-source effect, ensuring that the instrument reads the correct temperature.
However; the size of the target does not compromise on the temperature uniformity which, over 127mm, may be as good as ±0.1°C (depending on the temperature). This ensures that each pixel of a thermal camera is registering a temperature that is accurate and consistent with the temperature detected in other pixels. With regards to infrared thermometers, this precise uniformity ensures that all the temperatures ‘seen’ by the thermometer are accurate and consistent.
Further to this, the Fluke 4180-256 Infrared Calibrator is able to provide a temperature stability of up to ±0.05°C for 30 minutes and the instrument will indicate to the user, via a visual and audible alert, when the heat source is stable.
Adding to this instrument’s ease-of-use is a selection of built-in calibration procedures for Fluke thermometers. The user is also able to save calibration routines, including information regarding temperature set-points, calibration distance, emissivity and use of external aperture, to the Fluke 4180-256 Infrared Calibrator.
Alternatively, the user is able to configure the instrument from his/her PC using the included Fluke Model 9930 Interface-It Software. This software allows the user to access and adjust the Fluke 4180-256 Infrared Calibrator’s features, functions and settings.
In terms of its physical design, results are viewable on the Fluke 4180-256 Infrared Calibrator’s display and it has been optimised for portability and ease-of-transportation. To this end, it includes a conveniently placed handle and weighs only 9.5 kg.
The Fluke 4180-256 Infrared Calibrator is ideal for calibrating infrared thermometers and thermal imagers quickly, accurately and easily.

Notes |
1For 8 mm to 14 mm spectral band thermometers with emissivity set between 0.9 and 1.0 2The uniformity specification refers to how IR thermometers with different spot sizes both focused at the center of the target will measure the same temperature. 3The target has a nominal emissivity of 0.95, however it is radiometrically calibrated to minimize emissivity related uncertainties. |
