Fluke 1524-256 2-Channel Handheld Thermometer Description

The Fluke 1524-256 2-Channel Handheld Thermometer can be used to log temperature readings as well as measure, graph and record PRTs, thermistors and thermocouples.

It is suitable for the following applications:

  • Calibration
  • Loop-checking
  • Plant start-up
  • Troubleshooting
  • Maintenance
  • Repair

It is also suitable for use as a temperature reference and temperature logger in calibration baths, dry-block calibrators, thermowells, clean rooms, engines, heat exchangers, furnaces and freezers.

This instrument includes two channels and is able to conduct measurements simultaneously via each one. In addition to this, in order to facilitate its extensive measurement capabilities the Fluke 1524-256 2-Channel Handheld Thermometer includes three sensors with the following ranges:

  • PRT sensor: -200°C to 1000°C (±0.011°C)
  • Thermocouple sensor: -200°C to 2315°C (±0.24°C for J, K, L and M)
  • Thermistor sensor: -50°C to 150°C (±0.002°C)

Measurements are viewable via the 128 x 64-pixel, backlit, LCD display. The user is able to view data from both channels simultaneously, as well as view a trend graph that is scaled and plotted in real-time. In order to monitor processes over time and/or determine temperature stability quickly and without the use of statistics, the operator can utilise a function button optimised to alter the resolution of the graph.

The Fluke 1524-256 2-Channel Handheld Thermometer has the capacity to store up to 15 000 measurements, it also includes a real-time clock allowing readings to be saved with date and time stamps. As standard the Fluke 1524-256 2-Channel Handheld Thermometer has a sample rate of one reading per second, however, this can be reduced to one reading per hour or increased to one reading per 0.3 seconds (Fast Mode). The Fluke 1524-256 2-Channel Handheld Thermometer can also be set to collect samples at intervals between these two extremes.

Furthermore, using the RS-232 interface and supplied Fluke 9940 Toolkit Software the user can log and organise data collected by the Fluke 1524-256 2-Channel Handheld Thermometer. These accessories can also be used to send commands directly to the Fluke 1524-256 2-Channel Handheld Thermometer as well as create and upload probe configurations to the instrument.

The Fluke 1524-256 2-Channel Handheld Thermometer includes an INFO-CON memory chip to which probe configurations may be saved. This thermometer can accommodate RTDs/PRTs, thermistors and thermocouples; it will identify the probe attached and will subsequently recall the relevant calibration information from the INFO-CON memory chip. This ensures that the Fluke 1524-256 2-Channel Handheld Thermometer is correctly adjusted to perform correct temperature conversions for accurate measurements.

Further to this, probes can be locked to particular channels (using a password) in order to maintain system calibration traceability.

Adding to the reliability and accuracy of this instrument is its ability to maintain its precision in a variety of external temperature conditions; this is due to the inclusion of precision thermistors and a highly stable reference voltage source. Furthermore, this instrument has been tested in extremes of temperature and harsh vibration conditions to ensure that it maintains its accuracy and functionality in challenging environments.

Moreover, the Fluke 1524-256 2-Channel Handheld Thermometer utilises a current reversal technique which eliminates thermal EMFs, again adding to the precision of this instrument’s readings.

The Fluke 1524-256 2-Channel Handheld Thermometer is accurate, reliable and versatile. It has also been optimised to provide the user with extended periods of operation; to this end, it can be powered for up to twenty hours using three AA batteries. To extend this period of operation the Fluke 1524-256 2-Channel Handheld Thermometer includes power-saving settings and a DC adapter which may be used to extend this instrument’s period of functionality.

The Fluke 1524-256 2-Channel Handheld Thermometer is an adaptable, reliable and practical measurement tool and data logger, it is ideal for a variety of temperature calibration applications.
