The Fluke 1524-256 2-Channel Handheld Thermometer functions as both a tester, able to measure, graph and record PRTs, thermistors and thermocouples, and a temperature data logger. This model, unlike its sister product the Fluke 1523-256 1-Channel Handheld Thermometer, features two channels facilitating greater user efficiency.
Like its sister product it includes three sensor types with the following temperature ranges and accuracies:
Similarly, like its sister product, the Fluke 1524-256 2-Channel Handheld Thermometer has a standard sample rate of one reading per second, which may be improved to one reading per 0.3 seconds when used in Fast Mode. However, this instrument can also be set to log readings as infrequently as one measurement per hour and at intervals anywhere between this sample rate and the fastest sample rate of one reading per 0.3 seconds.
In order to accommodate this instrument’s extra data logging and second channel capabilities, it includes a more extensive memory than its sister product. The Fluke 1524-256 2-Channel Handheld Thermometer’s memory is capable of storing up to 15 000 measurements and features a real-time clock for adding date and time stamps to the saved measurements.
Measurements are viewable via the 128 x 64-pixel, backlit, LCD display. The user is able to view measurements from both channels simultaneously. Further to this, the Fluke 1524-256 2-Channel Handheld Thermometer scales and plots graphs in real-time; these graphs are also viewable via the display. Moreover, the Fluke 1524-256 2-Channel Handheld Thermometer includes a function button optimised to allow the user to alter the resolution of the graph, thereby allowing him/her to monitor processes over time and/or determine temperature stability quickly and without the use of statistics.
Alternatively, logged data can be downloaded to a PC using the included RS-232 interface and supplied Fluke 9940 Toolkit Software. These accessories allow the user to log and organise data collected by the thermometer; for greater volumes of data- monitoring and -logging the Fluke 1524-256 2-Channel Handheld Thermometer can be used with Fluke’s LogWare II Software (NOT included).
Furthermore, using the supplied RS-232 interface and 9940 Toolkit Software, the operator can send commands directly to the Fluke 1524-256 2-Channel Handheld Thermometer and may create and upload probe configurations to the test instrument.
Probe configurations can be saved to the Fluke 1524-256 2-Channel Handheld Thermometer’s INFO-CON memory chip. When a probe is connected to the thermometer (this thermometer can accommodate RTDs/PRTs, thermocouples and thermistors), the instrument will automatically source the relevant calibration information from the INFO-CON memory chip. This ensures that the instrument is always correctly adjusted to perform correct temperature conversions for accurate measurements.
In addition to this, to maintain system calibration traceability, probes can be locked to particular channels using a password.
The Fluke 1524-256 2-Channel Handheld Thermometer also includes precision resistors and a highly stable reference voltage source. These components work to maintain the instrument’s accuracy in spite of external temperatures. Furthermore, this instrument has been tested in extreme temperatures and under harsh vibration conditions in order to ensure its accuracy and functionality are maintained in challenging environments.
Also working to improve this instrument’s precision is its utilisation of a current reversal technique which eliminates thermal EMFs.
In terms of its physical design, the Fluke 1524-256 2-Channel Handheld Thermometer is portable and ergonomic. Adding to this instrument’s practicality is its ability to be powered using three AA batteries for up to 20 hours. This period of functionality can be extended by using the Fluke 1524-256 2-Channel Handheld Thermometer in conjunction with the supplied DC power adapter. In addition to this, the instrument includes power-saving settings which can be engaged as they are needed.
The Fluke 1524-256 2-Channel Handheld Thermometer is a practical, adaptable, reliable instrument. It is able to serve as a temperature reference and logger in calibration baths, dry-block calibrators, thermowells, clean rooms, engines, heat exchangers, furnaces and freezers. It is particularly well suited to calibration, loop-checking, plant start-up, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair applications.
