FLIR GF77 Gas Find Uncooled IR Thermal Imaging Camera
The FLIR GF77 is specifically designed to detect a range of gases (lens dependent) including methane (CH4), sulphur hexafluoride (SF6), ethylene (C2H4), and ammonia (NH3). It is suitable for use on industrial plants and natural gas power plants, as well as along the natural gas supply chain and can also be used to inspect liquified natural gas terminals and storage units. Furthermore, the IR camera may be of particular use to renewable energy producers.
Applications for this gas imaging camera vary depending on the lenses purchased with it. There are two types of lenses available:
- LR: low-range lenses have a spectral range of 7 to 8.5µm making them suitable for detecting methane, nitrous oxide, propane, sulphur dioxide, R-134a, and R-152a
- HR: high-range lenses have a spectral range of 9.5 to 12µm making them suitable for detecting sulphur hexafluoride, ammonia, and ethylene

The FLIR GF77 is an ergonomic IR imager equipped with a number of reporting features and thermal technology optimised for detecting gas leaks. For a quick introduction to this camera, please see the videos section
Thermal Technology
The FLIR GF77 has an IR resolution of 320 x 240 pixels.
To prevent false negatives resulting from the absorption of gases into other wavelengths, the special FLIR lenses ensure it is spectrally filtered for specific gases. This allows the user to scan for emissions and trace the gas to the source. This means essential repairs can be conducted immediately and more effectively, thereby protecting both workers and plant productivity.
A thermal representation of the scene and, subsequently the gases detected, is indicated on the vibrant 4-inch LCD display. The image contrast can be improved using the 1-Touch Level/ Span feature: this feature automatically adjusts the image so that the contrast between the gas and background scene is improved.
Furthermore, when tracing gas emissions in bright sunlight the operator can engage the Viewfinder function to maintain optimal viewing. This instrument is also equipped with laser-assisted autofocus designed to aid the operator with accurately setting the target area. Moreover, it can be set to High-sensitivity Mode (HSM) to increase leak detectability by highlighting plume movements.
In addition to sophisticated thermal technology, the camera includes an integrated Area Measurement Tool optimised for calculating tank levels and volumes.
Reporting
The FLIR GF77 Gas Find Uncooled IR Thermal Imaging Camera includes built-in GPS and voice annotation features designed to aid with the managing of inspection data as well as customisable work folders, again improving the organisation and management of results in the field. Footage can be saved to the camera’s 8GB removable SD card.
It includes Wi-Fi connectivity enabling the streaming and sharing of thermal videos and thereby facilitating collaborative decision making. This improves the efficiency and ease of inspections and allows the user to transfer data needed for creating comprehensive reports. Alternatively, the camera’s drag-and-drop feature can be used to generate reports.
Ergonomic Design
Also working to improve the ease and efficiency of testing is the FLIR GF77's responsive, graphic interface, and a scratch-resistant screen. The user can access the required features, functions, and settings without lag.
The design is based on FLIR’s award-winning T-series. It includes a 180° rotating optical block and an eyepiece for easy use in direct sunlight. The ergonomic, comfortable, simple-to-use design makes it suitable for use over prolonged periods in all light conditions.
The FLIR GF77 can be used to scan components, focus on problem areas, and detect gas leaks, particularly small leaks that may be missed when using a traditional TVA or ‘sniffer’. Its sophisticated thermal technology, reporting capabilities and ergonomic design make it ideal for inspecting and maintaining plant work environments thereby ensuring worker safety and preventing loss of earnings caused by downtime.
The FLIR GF77 Gas Find Uncooled IR Thermal Imaging Camera an adaptable, accurate and affordable maintenance and inspection tool.
