This year’s theme for International Women in Engineering Day (INWED), Make Safety Seen, has been inspired by the campaign’s roots. Launched ten years ago by the Women’s Engineering Society (WES), a former secretary and subsequent president of the society, Dame Caroline Haslett, is renowned, amongst other things, for her work improving electrical safety in the home. Specifically, she is credited with helping to develop three-pin fused plugs and shuttered sockets, designs still used in Britain today.[1] Continue reading →
