In an article for Digital Camera World, journalist, artist, and photographer Benedict Brain explained how he used a Teledyne FLIR One Pro Thermal Camera to capture illustrative images of the climate crisis.

Artistic Applications of the Teledyne FLIR One Pro

In his column, Benedict Brain explains that he was looking for a creatively innovative method of capturing iconic North Atlantic landscapes, such as Greenland’s Prince Christian Sound and Iceland’s Kirkjufell Mountain.[1] He turned to his Teledyne FLIR One Pro Thermal Camera:

“I have a little FLIR One Pro camera that I pop into my camera bag now and again. It’s a cool little thermal camera that connects to my iPhone and visually records the temperature of things. […] I love how the world is rendered in psychedelic colours as it captures and visually renders the temperatures of things.”

In addition to creating “super-cool” images that put an “original twist” on photographs of instantly recognisable landscapes, the Teledyne FLIR One Pro added gravitas to images of melting glaciers in Greenland’s Prince Christian Sound. Benedict Brain elaborates:

“Aside from the cool look and funky vibe the camera creates, I also like the story it adds, especially in this area of the world [Greenland]. Against the background of the climate crisis, revealing the melting glaciers takes on a different meaning altogether. These images might deliver a more poignant message – and some food for thought.”
