We're calling upon all of you Testers (see what we did there?) to help the Electrical Safety Council (ESC) in their quest to raise awareness of electrical fires and how dangerous they can be.
As we reported the other day, the ESC has been heavily campaigning this week to raise awareness of fire safety. They kicked off the week by appearing on TV and all kinds of big sites like the BBC to promote the dangers of electrical fires to the public.
Electrical fires kill or seriously injure thousands of people every year, so it's an exceptionally good cause to be involved with.
In response to the large number of incidents the ESC has released and is promoting a new smartphone app. This handy guide tells novice users how to go about checking their properties for commonly overlooked and essential electrical dangers and is well worth performing to check your home for dangers.
Figures released earlier in the week by the ESC found massive percentages of us actually have a significant amount of dangers in our homes that we hardly even think about, so using the app ensures you know exactly what you should be looking for.
We'd also encourage landlords renting out properties to tenants to check, double-check and check again their electricals in a property. This includes both fixed wire and PAT testing, and you should also make your tenants aware of the dangers of electricity as well.
So that's about it really. Get yourself over to the ESC's website for more information on the week, and make sure you Tweet, Facebook, Stumble, Roll, Shout About or use Carrier Pigeon to spread the word about the dangers of electrical fires.
