The Problem
Growing success in the South West, South East, East Anglia, and Midlands prompted South West PAT Test Ltd, founded by Managing Director Peter McCallum in 2006, to rebrand as The Electrical Compliance Collective Ltd (TECC). TECC’s ambition to expand operations to serve customers in a wider range of industries and sectors meant it required cost-effective PAT testers capable of performing a comprehensive array of checks efficiently. Investing in one make and model of PAT tester would also enable TECC to establish professional working practices and standards across its network of 20+ electrical field test engineers; enabling the company to deliver a fully automatic and integrated electrical safety testing system to its customers.
The Solution
Compliant with IET’s 5th Edition Code of Practice, the Seaward Apollo 600+ PAT Tester Elite Kits met TECC’s criteria. Seaward’s Apollo 600+ PAT Testers can perform all the essential electrical tests required for verifying the safety of portable appliances used in a variety of industries and sectors. Furthermore, automatic test sequencing improves the efficiency of inspections: engineers need only scan the asset’s QR code and the Apollo 600+ will recognise the item and subsequently program and cycle through the relevant test sequences, which may include earth continuity, insulation resistance, protective conductor current, touch current, IEC lead polarity, and RCD trip times. TECC are among some of the first to use customised QR codes to enable automatic asset recognition and test programming.
Results are saved to the Seaward Apollo 600+ PAT Tester’s extensive internal memory and can be downloaded to the PATGuard 3 PC Software or sent to TECC’s head office for inclusion in client databases. Data can also be used to create test and inspection reports, test certificates, and client invoices.
Testimonials
Hannah Fruen, General Manager of TECC, explains the vital role Seaward’s test equipment has in the success of the business:
“As a business, we work across a diverse range of sectors, environments and locations carrying out all types of electrical work including appliance testing upwards of 500,000 items each year. Our responsibility to clients around the country means that we must carry out all testing as efficiently as possible, but without compromising the validity or integrity of the safety testing process. Consistency and reliability are essential in meeting this challenge and the use of the Apollo 600+ Elite kits ensure that we can provide a totally trustworthy and traceable record keeping and documentation system. In this respect, our ability to develop professional and highly organised working practices, with advanced test technology at its centre, is contributing directly to the successful growth and reputation of the business.”
