Looked outside recently? It's basically the quintessential British summer; it's usually pretty cold out there and probably raining (relentlessly) and as a result, we're all staying in our houses, huddled around our radiators and cranking up the central heating.

Centrica, who owns British Gas, has released figures that show their profits have rose by 15% in the first half of this year. This is most likely as a result of everyone switching on their central heating as the never-ending downpour and severe lack of warm sunshine force us to break out the winter coats and blatantly refuse to open our windows.

The gas giants' profits actually rose to a rather significant £1.45 billion!

The sudden spike in profits also comes from a sudden drop in consumption earlier this year, presumably because home owners were concerned about rising gas and electrical prices. The rise in usage seems to say that people have started to put their comfort in the home over the prices, as figures obtained by the BBC show that prices are still exceptionally high. Gas and electrical bill prices were raised last year by 16% for electricity, and 18% for gas last August.
