Kangaroos, the auzzie outback, boomerangs, koalas, electricity and free booze. Sounds a bit dangerous if you ask me.
Talk about an extra perk! An Australian firm is promising new employees a crate of free beer every week for a year, hoping the incentive will bring talented workers to the organisation.
Eric Scott Electrical and Air Conditions Services is based in Moree, a tiny town out in the Australian Outback, and they’ve said it is “near impossible” to find anybody in the area with the skills they need.
The area around Moree is extremely popular amongst mining companies, and Eric Scott cites this is as the main reason for the scheme, stating that many people are being lured in by mines “throwing money at people”.
The Moree firm has lost three members of staff in the past six months to the mining companies, leaving the company floundering as electricians they need are either hiding out in the Australian outback in caves or are being tempted by heavy-industry and the higher salaries it generally supplies.
The company really isn’t prepared to sit down and wait for everyone to pass them by though – they’re hoping to entice people to come along and work for them with a number of little perks including free beer and (depending on qualifications) the possibility of a free mobile phone and perhaps even housing!
Eric Scott, the company’s owner, said: “As a growing company we need more qualified staff and thought we needed to do something to stop people from leaving.
“Most blokes like a beer, so we thought we could use it in our favour as a hook for new staff.”
The adverts that have been run by the company are entitled ‘Free Beer for a Year’ and have been running in several Australian publications.
Sounds good right? All you have to do is move to Australia and send them along your details. The firm claims there’s been a lot of interest already, and the final deadline for applicants is on August 13th.
Unfortunately the firm appears to not have a website so I can’t provide you with a link, but if you want free beer, loads of other perks and a job out in the sunny Australian outback, I’m sure that won’t stop you from tracking it down!
Certainly beats another day in rainy Blighty!
