10-Point Checklist for Buying Ex Cameras
Buying an Ex digital camera often costs many times that of its non-Ex equivalent. CorDEX has published a checklist to help potential users work their way through the maze of features. Ranging from affordable point-and-shoot models to high end compact digital SLRs, intrinsically safe refers to a method of protection that prevents ignition by spark of thermal means. Bluetooth Logging for up to 105 Measurement Channels
Hioki Memory HiLoggers record up to 105 channels of data wirelessly using Bluetooth® technology, capturing parameters such as voltage, temperature, resistance or humidity signals. Some models provide complete isolation between channels and high noise resistance. Continue reading → -
Hioki Four-Wire Method detects Latent Solder Joint Defects
At the IPC Apex 2014 Conference and Exhibition for the electronics manufacturing industry last year, Hioki presented a paper revealing that it has developed a four-wire solder joint integrity test for finding latent defects in PCBs that would otherwise go undetected by conventional tests such as capacitance method and boundary scan, among others. Calibrating Electrical and Process Instruments
Electrical measurement equipment such as multimeters, resistors, power supplies and electrical testers are commonly used instruments that require periodical calibration, as well as process instruments advises Eddy Jones of calibrate.co.uk. Continue reading → -
Gas Detection from Past to Present
Please note this blog was originally published on the 11th August 2014. It was updated on the 8th September 2021 to include new information about gas detecting thermal imaging cameras, as well as relevant gas detector, flue gas analyser, and thermal camera models. Detecting gas has come a long way since the Victorian days when miners would use a canary as an early warning indicator of toxic gases such as carbon monoxide, methane, or carbon dioxide. New BS Voltage Tester Standard bans Fuses
The British Standard relating to two-pole voltage indicators, BS EN61243-3 was revised in 2010 and came into force in May 2013. Now all voltage indicators on the British and European markets should comply with the latest version of the standard, which precludes the use of a fuse. Continue reading → -
Intrinsically Safe Measurement avoids Blasts
We have covered the issue of intrinsic safety in a previous blog post last June. Now PASS is driving the message forward in the media, recently with a double page editorial feature written by our managing director Barry Atkins on pages 28-29 of the March 2014 Edition of Hazardex magazine, pioneer of hazardous area publishing in the UK. Give your Thermal Imaging some Va Va Voom!
So you have thermal imaging camera, but did you know that if you splash out upwards of £60,000 on a Mercedes Benz S-Class you get one thrown in? OK, so it might not be much use if you want to inspect an electrical power distribution switchboard or if you want to measure the heat of pipework and header tanks in a process environment, but it will make a great impression when you visit customers.
