The Beha-Amprobe ULD-420 Ultrasonic Leak Detector & Transmitter can be used to find vibration, electrical discharge, and air and water leaks in pressurised and unpressurised HVAC/R, mechanical and electrical systems and equipment. To this end, this kit includes both Beha-Amprobe’s ULD-400-RE Ultrasonic Receiver and ULD-400-TE Ultrasonic Transmitter, as well as a range of accessories including headphones, earbuds, a power parabola and tubular extension. For a complete list of the products included with the Beha-Amprobe ULD-420 Ultrasonic Leak Detector & Transmitter, please see the ‘What’s Included?’ section.
For a brief introduction to Beha-Amprobe’s ULD-400 Series of Ultrasonic Detectors, please see the following video.
The Beha-Amprobe ULD-420 Ultrasonic Leak Detector & Transmitter’s wide frequency range of 20kHz to 90kHz enables it to detect a wide variety of leaks and faults. As a result, it can be used to inspect the following:
- Compressed air and other gases**
- Plumbing
- Electrical and mechanical systems
- Valves, tanks and pipes
- Heat exchangers, boilers and condensers
- Air conditioning and refrigeration systems
- Motors and machinery
The strength of the ultrasonic signal can be viewed via the bar graph on the Beha-Amprobe ULD-400-RE Ultrasonic Receiver’s 6.35cm, LCD display and can be heard using the supplied headphones or earbuds. Listening to the converted ultrasonic signal also aids with identifying the type of fault: electrical discharge issues a ticking sound, while leaks produce a hissing noise.
The Beha-Amprobe ULD-400-RE Ultrasonic Receiver’s adjustable sensitivity allows the user to locate the source of faults more precisely, please see the following video for further information.
Moreover, the power parabola, which directs ultrasonic sound towards the sensor, and the Beha-Amprobe ULD-400-RE Ultrasonic Receiver’s filter function ensure the detector remains effective in noisy environments. The filter function removes up to three main noise frequencies; for further information, please see the following video.
Similarly, the Beha-Amprobe ULD-400-TE Ultrasonic Transmitter can be used with the Beha-Amprobe ULD-400-RE Ultrasonic Receiver to find air and water leaks in systems and equipment where there is a lack of ultrasonic sound caused by a lack of pressure. In these situations, the Beha-Amprobe ULD-400-TE Ultrasonic Transmitter can be used to create an ultrasonic signal strong enough for the Beha-Amprobe ULD-400-RE Ultrasonic Receiver to detect. This allows the user to find air and water leaks in unpressurised systems and equipment; it is particularly useful when inspecting the following:
- Automobile windshields and windows
- Windows, doors and roofs of buildings
- Fluid and gas tanks
Please see the video below for an overview of how to inspect unpressurised systems using the Beha-Amprobe ULD-400 Ultrasonic Receiver and Transmitter.
Finally, the Beha-Amprobe ULD-420 Ultrasonic Leak Detector & Transmitter also includes a detachable tubular extension for accessing difficult-to-reach areas.
The Beha-Amprobe ULD-420 Ultrasonic Leak Detector & Transmitter is a useful, versatile and effective ultrasonic diagnostic and troubleshooting tool.
