The Aim-TTi TG2000 20MHz DDS Function Generator is a digitally controlled waveform generator with RS-232 and USB interfaces. It utilises a direct digital synthesis (DDS) technique to generate waveforms digitally using a phase accumulator, a look-up table, and a DAC. DDS provides high accuracy, stability and spectral purity as well as excellent frequency agility and low phase noise.
The Aim-TTi TG2000 20MHz DDS Function Generator can create sine, square, positive pulse and negative pulse waveforms.
Wide Frequency and Amplitude Range
The Aim-TTi TG2000 20MHz DDS Function Generator has a frequency range of 0.001Hz to 20MHz with a frequency setting resolution of six digits or 1mHz, stability of 1ppm, and an absolute accuracy of 10ppm over one year.
Additionally, the Aim-TTi TG2000 20MHz DDS Function Generator has a variable amplitude range spanning 5mV to 20V peak-to-peak from a source impedance of 50Ω or 600Ω. The waveform quality remains excellent over the entire amplitude range.
Frequency or Period Entry
The frequency parameter can be configured in regards to frequency or period. It can be set numerically using the units of the operator’s choice.
Flexible Amplitude Entry
The Aim-TTi TG2000 20MHz DDS Function Generator’s output impedance can be set to 50Ω or 600Ω and the amplitude can be configured in RMS voltage, dBm or peak-to-peak voltage.
The amplitude can be set in terms of either the voltage into the correct termination, or the source EMF (for high-impedance loads).
Easy to Use
Parameters can be entered numerically using the Aim-TTi TG2000 20MHz DDS Function Generator’s keypad. Alternatively, settings can be incremented or decremented using the rotary encoder which enables quasi-analogue control.
The main information is visible on the Aim-TTi TG2000 20MHz DDS Function Generator’s backlit LCD with four rows of twenty characters. Via the submenus, the user can access complex functions and modulation modes.
Modulation Modes
The Aim-TTi TG2000 20MHz DDS Function Generator supports the following modulation modes.
Sweep
All the Aim-TTi TG2000 20MHz DDS Function Generator’s sweeps are phase continuous. It supports linear, logarithmic, single and continuous sweeps. Single sweeps can be triggered via the front panel, the trigger input or digital interfaces.
Over the course of the sweep, adjustable sweep markers are displayed enabling the user to see frequency points on the scope/ chart recorder.
All waveforms can be swept over their full frequency range (0.2Hz minimum) at an adjustable-rate ranging from 50 milliseconds to 15 minutes.
Gated
The output signal is switched on or off depending on the gating signal state. The Aim-TTi TG2000 20MHz DDS Function Generator’s front panel, internal trigger generator, trigger input or bus interface signal can be used as the gating source.
AM
The Aim-TTi TG2000 20MHz DDS Function Generator supports external amplitude modulation up to 100% for all waveforms via the VCA input.
FSK
The Frequency Shift Keying mode facilitates phase coherent switching between two user-defined frequencies.
The rate of switching is specified by the source; the Aim-TTi TG2000 20MHz DDS Function Generator’s front panel key, internal trigger generator, trigger input socket or bus interface signal can serve as the switching source.
Tone Switching
The user can specify up to sixteen frequencies between which the Aim-TTi TG2000 20MHz DDS Function Generator will switch according to the trigger signal.
Synchronisation
The Aim-TTi TG2000 20MHz DDS Function Generator also includes an auxiliary output socket that can be used to provide the following Sync signals:
- Waveform Sync: 50% duty cycle square wave at the frequency of the main output
- Sweep Sync: outputs a pulse at the start of each sweep and at a user-defined marker frequency
- Trigger Out: issues a replica of the trigger signal from the trigger input socket, the internal trigger/ gate generator or the manual trigger key
Total Digital Control
As the Aim-TTi TG2000 20MHz DDS Function Generator’s frequency and functions are all digitally controlled, this makes it easy for complete instrument setups to be stored and facilitates full remote control.
Non-Volatile Memory
Up to nine complete instrument setups can be saved to the Aim-TTi TG2000 20MHz DDS Function Generator’s non-volatile memory.
The Aim-TTi TG2000 20MHz DDS Function Generator will automatically save the setup upon shut down. The last-used setup or a pre-defined default setup can be restored upon reactivation of the Aim-TTi TG2000 20MHz DDS Function Generator.
RS-232 and USB Interfaces
The Aim-TTi TG2000 20MHz DDS Function Generator’s RS-232 and USB interfaces mean setups can be stored remotely. These interfaces also enable full remote control of the waveform generator’s functions.
The Aim-TTi TG2000 20MHz DDS Function Generator is an economic and easy-to-use waveform generator with an eclectic selection of functions.
